When tradition, love and Viennese pastry art come together in the highest perfection, then the day is a wonderful one, because you have Landtmann's Original Guglhupf in front of you. Here, airy sponge cake is combined in the most beautiful harmony with dark cocoa mass and a promise is made - one that speaks of the greatest pleasures, which the Guglhupf also knows how to keep par excellence. This marbled delicacy has long been an indispensable part of the Viennese breakfast table, but it is also unrivaled as a typical Austrian birthday cake.
The Guglhupf was considered a festive pastry from early on and was served at weddings, baptisms and numerous other celebratory occasions. A little later, in the Biedermeier period, Emperor Franz Josef I could not get enough of it and always had a piece of Guglhupf served to him for breakfast. From then on, this impressive delicacy began its triumphal procession; now it was ready for the world.
Today, the Guglhupf is as popular in Alsace as it is in Austria, and there is an entire festival dedicated to it here: every year, on the second Sunday in June, the Fête du Kougelhopf is celebrated in the small town of Ribeauvillé, which claims to be the origin of the Kougelhopf or Kouglof. And even though we know that the Guglhupf belongs to Austria, we still like to share it with our neighbors and are happy that it is celebrated here and there.
And where is the best Guglhupf baked? Clearly in Landtmann's Original Manufaktur in Vienna
